Sourced from Africa, Iroko as a specie is the most challenging timber that Southgate Timber sell. The timber is imported to the UK as dimension-cut sawn boards in a kiln-dried state. The board itself has a multi-directional grain which creates challenges during the procurement process. When sawn boards are ripped to width this can cause a release of tension in some pieces resulting in twisting or buckling over the length. The multi-directional grain can lift in some boards when the face and sides are machined. In addition, the makeup of this specie can cause some end-splitting and side splinters. For all these factors Southgate Timber recommends a minimum 15% wastage be factored into Iroko orders for these natural defects.
We recommend Iroko decking be installed with;-
a) Face-fixing Spax Stainless Steel decking screws of 60mm length. The boards should be pre-drilled with the Spax step drill at 400 > 500mm centres with two screws fixed across the face perpendicular to the board direction. The screws should be around 20 > 25mm from the outer edges of each side of the board.
b) Deckwise extreme4 hidden fix kit designed for Kiln Dried hardwood giving initial 4mm side spacing. Follow the instructions on the kits, screws and accessories all provided in the kits.

The driver must have assistance to offload unless alternative arrangements made with our transport team
Deliveries are to kerbside only
Access must be suitable for lorries which will be 3.5 tonne 7.5 tonne or 14 tonne lorries (7.5 tonne being similar to average refuse collection lorry)
The drivers cannot enter customer properties or take materials to rear gardens.
