Do you have a showroom?

Yes, we are based in Moreton, Essex, CM5 0JA we would welcome your visit opening times on the Contact Us page.

How do I place an order?

Most products are online so simply click the products you require and add the desired lengths and pieces to your cart for secure checkout with a card.

How can I order a sample?

Yes, samples are available on most timber product pages and are posted to the UK mainland for a minimal charge.

How quick is delivery?

We offer UK wide deliveries with varying times depending on location these are typically 1 – 7 working days with locations nearer Essex offering the quickest times. Guide Lead times are displayed on checkout.

Can I just turn up and collect my order?

Ideally, we prefer customer’s use our click and ‘timed’ collection service this enables us to pre-pick the materials ready for efficient collection on arrival.

Can I add to an existing order?

Yes, please email or call with the extra requirements, the team will be happy to assist presuming the order has not already been despatched.

Can I postpone my delivery until I need it?

Yes, on checkout we have an option for customers to add notes regarding delivery (and again on the order confirmation email phase we welcome feedback). We are able to hold deliveries for a maximum of 8 weeks, stock will be reserved and ready for call-off as required.

Can I track my order?

We can fully track goods delivery on our lorries these deliveries will be booked in with customers the day before. A tracking notice is issued on the despatch of items via courier. If you have special requests please add these in the notes when you place your online order we will try to accommodate

When I place an order should I factor in wastage?

For most timbers UK standard advice given is to factor in 10% waste for occasional natural defects this would be our recommendation in most cases.

How will my goods be delivered?

Parcel, Courier or Lorry this is confirmed on checkout when you order online.

How can I pay?

Card online and bank transfer (Amex not accepted at this time)

Which certification marks do you comply with?

PEFC and FSC, FSC being independently audited. We are also members of the Timber Development UK

What does sawn and P.A.R. mean?

Sawn is a rough finish typically from a larger band saw blade and size can be less uniform, PAR stands for Planned All Round and is smooth on all sizes with minimal variation in size

What does Grooved for Hidden Fix mean?

This is term for our decking stock intended to be installed with no visible face fix screws, The boards have side grooves on both long edges to accept the Hidden Fixings.

What does Reeded mean?

A term for decking which has several small half-round grooves of around 5mm width in the top surface, was traditionally thought to add grip but recent thinking and fashion often lean toward smooth decking for better appearance and superior grip.

What does Castle mean?

A term for decking which has several deeper Castle grooves of around 13mm width in the top surface, was traditionally thought to add grip but recent thinking and fashion often lean toward smooth decking for better appearance and superior grip.

What is 1st Grade?

This is the highest quality grade in a particular timber, detailed descriptions can be seen on product pages

What should I do if I have an issue with my order?

Please email within 72 hours of delivery to report any issues, our team will respond swiftly and assist in resolving them.

How do I know how much decking to order?

If you are unsure our team are happy to assist by email, phone call and livechat

How do I know what screws to get?

We have ‘how to’ videos on some product pages which give our recommendations, if you are unsure please get in touch we would be happy to assist further.

How do I choose which decking to go for?

The product pages all have detailed descriptions stating the differences between our stock options, we only stock products we feel are the best in the market. We have many images on our pages from happy customers for inspiration these give a guide to colour and look. We also have a sample purchase available on the product pages and our team can offer advice so please reach out to us by phone, email, or livechat.

How do I apply for a Trade account?

We can offer account facilities for long-standing regular customers please get in touch by email if you have an interest in opening an account.

The new Douglas Fir, how does that compare?

We feel this is the perfect replacement for Siberian Larch which since the Ukraine conflict has been in limited supply. Douglas Fir offers a durable, attractive timber with few defects it is perfect for any external cladding or fencing application at a competitive price point.

The new Thermo Ayous , how does that compare?

This is a thermally modified timber with great potential in the market, considerably cheaper than Western Red Cedar and similar in appearance. The timber is extremely durable, lightweight and virtually no natural defects, we are very excited about this new product.

What if I want a non standard product?

Bespoke machining for stock timbers and sourcing of other species not listed is a strong point for Southgate Timber with 40 years trading experience we would be happy to assist and look forward to receiving your enquiries ideally by email if possible.
