Timber cladding has become a popular choice in contemporary architecture for both residential and commercial buildings. Its natural beauty, versatility, and sustainability make it an appealing option for enhancing exterior spaces. Today, we're going to explore exactly how timber cladding has transformed the face of modern architecture and exterior design.

Aesthetic Appeal

Timber cladding offers a warm and inviting look that blends seamlessly with natural surroundings. It can add character and charm to modern minimalist designs and complement traditional architecture styles.

Insulation and Energy Efficiency

Wood is a natural insulator, providing excellent thermal and acoustic insulation. Timber cladding can improve the energy efficiency of a building by reducing heat loss in winter and minimising heat gain in summer.

Sustainability

Timber is a renewable resource, and when sourced responsibly, it has a low environmental impact. Our timber cladding options are certified by the PEFC organisation (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification), ensuring sustainable forest management practices and the legality of the timber.

Durability and Longevity

Our premium wood species are all highly durable timbers, naturally resistant to decay, fungi and insect infestation. The natural oils in the timbers are what gives them their incredible durability making them long-lasting and a practical investment. With proper treatment and maintenance, timber cladding will remain a hardwearing material with an extended lifespan.

Types of Timber for Cladding:

Western Red Cedar

Known for its rich colour and natural resistance to decay, Western Red Cedar is a popular and luxury choice for exterior cladding. It’s lightweight, easy to work with, and can be left untreated to weather and become a beautiful silver-grey patina.

Douglas Fir & Siberian Larch

Presenting a light-golden brown, both Douglas Fir and Siberian Larch are dense, durable timbers and with a high resin content, both are particularly suitable for harsh weather conditions. These timbers are known for being budget-friendly alternatives to Western Red Cedar, however, stocks of Siberian Larch continue to slowly decrease in the UK, so we’re turning our attention more so to Douglas Fir as a like-for-like replacement.

Thermo Ayous

A thermally modified, exotic Obeche Hardwood, which undergoes a heat treatment process to enhance its durability, stability, and resistance to decay. Its smooth texture, light colour, and uniform grain make it an attractive option for modern architectural designs.

Thermowood

Another heat-treated timber for enhanced durability and stability, Thermowood is an excellent value product made from Nordic Pine with a mid-dark brown finish.

Black Barn Cladding

The black finish offers a fashionable, on-trend, modern aesthetic giving contrast to surrounding plants. Made from high-grade British Columbia Canadian Premium Lodgepole Pine, this timber is selected for optimised strength and stability.

Cedar Shingles

Cedar shingles provide a textured, rustic appearance and offer excellent weather protection.

Installation Methods

Horizontal cladding is the most common method, offering a classic and timeless appearance. Vertical cladding creates a striking and contemporary appearance and is often used to emphasise the height of a building. But please be advised, when purchasing your cladding, the suitable fit for the profile will be listed within the description of the product, so the type of fit you desire may determine the profile you purchase.

Timber cladding offers a versatile and sustainable option for enhancing the aesthetics and functionality of buildings. Whether you're aiming for a rustic, modern, or eco-friendly design, timber cladding can provide the perfect solution. By choosing the right type of wood, installation method, and maintenance routine, you can enjoy the timeless beauty and benefits of timber cladding for years to come.
