Hard Work and CommitmentHi all, no blogs for some time, this is certainly an area we need to put more effort into - keeping in touch with customers and bringing current news. Firstly over and above work, I am delighted to share the news of things that should always come first, family and friends, namely my daughter’s Under 12’s football team which is proudly sponsored by Southgate Timber. Tankerton FC youth and adult teams are an amazing bunch of committed volunteer coaches, supportive parents, and hardworking players. This year, the Under 12’s Girls came second in the league in the first season in a massive growth sport and ever more competitive girl’s football. More importantly, we won the award for the fairest team for both supporters and players which I think is the bigger achievement, especially when you see some other teams with swearing and complaints to refs the norm. It is a breath of fresh air to see the attitude of the girls to play hard but fair, and take pride in their successes and learn from their failures. Congratulations on an amazing season! Onto work news, the biggest change in recent months is the declining stocks in the UK of Siberian Larch. Many of you will be aware that from day one of the Ukraine war, Siberian Larch has not been possible to purchase and all stocks currently in the UK are from shipments prior to this terrible event. Traditionally, Siberian Larch was around 15% of our turnover and more recently this has risen to 25%. This is partly due to our expertise in ensuring we overstocked and heavy purchasing within the UK market to keep the supply going for as long as humanly possible. Recently, we turn our attention to alternatives and we have found the solution in Douglas Fir which we are now beginning to stock and market. We will continue to grow our stock of Douglas Fir Fencing and Cladding so customers who rely on products at this price point have the option to buy long term. Our next exciting new product is Thermo Ayous which is thermally modified Obeche. The alteration of the characteristics of the timber leaves a stable, lightweight, very durable, and almost defect-free timber that is a strong contender for Cladding or Fencing, being more competitively priced than Western Red Cedar. Our stock of Thermo Ayous 20 x 70mm Parallelogram / Rainscreen Our final new offering is following a strong trend for garden buildings in a black finish. We have sourced Black Barn Cladding and are confident this will be a big hit, giving a great contrast in colour to planting schemes within the garden. Sourced from British Columbia and using Premium Canadian Lodgepole Pine that is then given a Matt black performance coating, this product will make a statement in any garden. Key selling points are the 18-year warranty on the coating and 30-year timber warranty (see terms on the product pages for more information). If you are interested in any of these new products, please click on the product pages and read further information. There are also options to purchase hand samples and of course, our team is always on hand to assist either by phone, livechat, or email. We continue to strive to bring many improvements throughout our business and from the reviews we receive, it is clear we are continuing to grow in strength. We thank all our customers for their continued support which we really appreciate. Best regards, Mark Jenkins.
