Ipe hardwood decking is widely popular for its strength and extreme durability, recognised as one of the best hardwood decking materials in the game. It’s known for its beautiful, varied tones, embracing the true essence of natural wood. But now, resilience and beauty aren’t the only benefits of purchasing our Ipe because all our stock is currently FSC Certified. So, what exactly does this mean?

The Forest Stewardship Council Certification guarantees that your timber was sourced from a forest managed in a way that is socially beneficial, while following strict environmental and economical standards. Responsibly managed forests prevent deforestation from rapidly escalating, ethically sourcing wood in a way that doesn’t degrade the environment. Buying an FSC Certified product from us ensures you, our consumer, that our product abides by these standards. Ultimately, its all about protecting the green environment, presenting us with a great opportunity to have a healthy method of sourcing building materials.

As a seller, we also have to be FSC Certified to sell the products. Many suppliers will often claim their products to be ethically sourced from sustainably managed forests, but this may not always be the case. Without that gold stamp of approval from the FSC, there’s no way to be entirely sure the timber was sourced this way. This is why Southgate Timber is annually audited in person so we can be FSC approved, maintaining the world’s greenery while continuing to source high-quality timbers.

Its important to us to protect the world’s green ecosystem, and that’s why we’ve invested highly in FSC Certified hardwood decking. When browsing through our decking products, you’ll find we have a wide option of materials that have this certification, our main one being Jatoba. This product was the first material we invested in where all our stock was completely FSC Certified and still is to this day. Jatoba is an enriching cherry wood with great stability, selling at an excellent price point.

You’ll also notice under our decking menu that we have two categories for Yellow Balau, one of these being FSC Certified Yellow Balau. Not all our stock of this material has the certification, but you will come across the SLVK Verification. This still means our Balau has come from well-managed forests, focusing more on reducing illegal logging and trading, certifying the timber is sourced through the legal process.

And of course, as mentioned before, we’ve got our famous Ipe. All our stock of Ipe is now FSC Certified just like our Jatoba. This has been one of our best seller’s for while due to its incredible longevity and charm. Because of the high demand, we’ve taken this opportunity to stock up on FSC Certified Ipe, meaning you can bulk order as much as you want (because we’ve got plenty to go around) and you can trust its origins are ethical.
