The long Easter weekend is the perfect time to start planning for your outdoor project. Whether you’re tackling a garden revamp, replacing old fencing, or giving your space a fresh new feature, a few days off can go a long way, especially with the right materials at hand. At Southgate Timber, we love seeing how our customers bring their visions to life using high-quality timber, and this month we’ve seen some fantastic examples worth sharing.

One standout project featured a custom cladding installation using Thermo Ash, a timber that’s quickly becoming a go-to choice for homeowners and designers alike. Known for its rich tone, long-lasting performance, and easy installation process, Thermo Ash offers the kind of design flexibility that makes it ideal for more than just decking. In this case, it was used for a bespoke cladding profile, machined in our UK mill to a custom specification. While the project is not yet finished, you can already see how the timber adds a sleek, contemporary look that brings real architectural detail to the space. We can’t wait to see the end result!

Another recent favourite is a fencing project using Far Eastern Hardwood battens, designed with vertical timber consisting of a variety of different profiles to create modern lines and a wind block, resulting in a more secluded feel to the area. It’s a great reminder that fencing doesn’t have to be just practical, it can be a real design feature in its own right. Far Eastern Hardwood offers durability, a smooth finish, and a warm tone that works beautifully in both traditional and modern garden settings.

Another beautiful example of how timber can completely elevate a space comes from a recent customer who shared their handcrafted cedar fencing and trellis project. Using our high-quality cedar, they designed and built bespoke panels to add personality to their garden. The attention to detail is clear, with elegant chevron-style boarding and scroll tops for a decorative finish. The warmth of the cedar complements the brickwork and planting beautifully, and projects like this serve as the perfect inspiration for homeowners thinking about small but impactful upgrades this Easter weekend.

If you’re looking for ideas or feeling inspired this Easter weekend, here are a few ways you can use timber to elevate your outdoor space:

  • Update your fencing with sleek battens or slatted designs
  • Create a feature wall or privacy screen using timber battens or cladding
  • Lay a new deck in time for summer, using a standout timber like Thermo Ash
  • Frame raised planters or seating areas with smooth, durable hardwood

And with our 40th anniversary sale still running, it’s the perfect time to pick up premium timber at great prices. Whether you’re planning something simple or designing something bespoke, our team is here to help with advice and recommendations to suit your project.

This Easter, be inspired by what’s possible with timber. Check out our customer projects on our socials for ideas or get in touch to talk through what you’re planning, we’re always happy to help you make it happen. Happy Easter!
